Social Media vs Reality

I can’t stop watching posts where people compare what is shown on social media to their actual experience. After my daughter and I had our own reality check in Hawaii, the resulting conversation led to this idea on how to turn expectation setting into a learning opportunity… by creating your own Social Media vs Reality post.

Today on Betweened, we have some curated social media vs reality posts to help prompt your conversation. We also built a TikTok Collection. (But use caution when viewing with kids on the platforms not made for them.)

Other interesting/fun things

• Psychology of music: Most popular songs portray insecure romantic attachment, study finds - Maybe this isn’t that shocking of a finding if you think about it, but it made me smile. Plus it’s a nice jumping off point for a discussion with kids about lyrics and their influence.

• Social Media Experts Weigh the Pros and Cons of “Growing Up in Public”  — an interview with me and Devorah Heitner who has one of my favorite phrases about parenting with tech: Mentoring, not monitoring.
