AI Coloring Pages, Llamas, and LEGO

AI for Play: Color Pages

I was kind of shocked when my 13-year-old daughter re-engaged with coloring pages. But the difference was that we were using generative AI to create personalized pages, including her request for an “aggressive llama playing piano.”

Change up your coloring game with these instructions (and help your kids learn about gen AI). I even got a little punchy and asked for an “appendectomy surgery” coloring page and was not disappointed. Something for everyone!

Weekend Skill Building with LEGO

Aliza leads curation for Betweened and has been inspired by her niece’s LEGOs. So we have loads of LEGO videos this weekend. Plus Aliza dives into the educational upside and inspiration to make your own family LEGO video.

Bonus: If you’re on a mobile device now, check out @bricksnlifts as he shares his love of LEGO and how he approached sorting his thousands of bricks!

Why I can’t stop laughing

As challenging as social media can be, some days it just outright delights me.

My college friends shared this ridiculous Instagram post of dogs jumping over cups. Try watching this or some of their other videos with your kids and once you catch your breath from laughing, talk about

  • How does the music and sound effects add to the humor?

  • Even if they don’t know the musical reference, you can ask them about how the shift in the music on the third level changes the viewing experience.

  • How do the dogs personalities add to the video? (The growling one, the fearless one, the cautious one…)

  • This has 6 million hearts and 2.6 million shares. Why would people heart it or share it?

How you watch together helps balance how much you and your kids watch.
